Typical Student at Stone Mountain Private Boarding Schools
The boys who attend Stone Mountain private boarding school aren't bad kids; they're actually bright, creative and overall good, but learning differences and behavioral or emotional problems have hindered their academic performance and their success in relationships.
Stone Mountain School helps boys who have a history of emotional and learning struggles which have lead to unacceptable behaviors.
Common behaviors exhibited by boys before attending Stone Mountain include:

By enforcing accountability, responsibility, and respect, students at Stone Mountain School, students learn the difference between appropriate and inappropriate behaviors behaviors. Through our stage system of personal development, students learn to overcome feelings of helplessness and frustration as they develop skills and recognize self-worth. Stone Mountain School helps boys build their confidence and self-esteem, to take charge of their futures, and to strengthen their relationships. Stone Mountain School's all boy boarding school's program serves boys ages 11-17 at time of enrollment. The
student must be able to participate in a rigorous outdoor program. Students
must possess a full scale IQ of 85 or more as measured by a standardized
test.
Typical Academic Problems
Many of our students at our all boys boarding school have
issues with attending to the task at hand. They are easily distracted
and have difficulty focusing on a project. Many have experienced repeated
failures and
they easily become discouraged. A typical student at Stone Mountain
is someone who is not performing at his grade level or living up to
his potential. A high percentage of applicants have been diagnosed
with a specific learning disability and/or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder (ADHD) and are currently taking medication.
Typical Behavior Problems
Many students who are referred to Stone Mountain boys boarding
school have exhibited oppositional behavior or defiance of authority at home or school. These boys often refuse to do homework
or chores. They may be making poor choices when it comes to friends
and recreational activities. They often refuse to listen to the advice
of their parents. At school, these boys are disruptive in class,
refuse to do lessons, and lack respect for teachers. Many of our students
have had difficulty accepting responsibility for their behavior and
place the blame for their problems on other people or circumstances.
Exclusionary Criteria
Students with current or frequent episodes of physical aggression, chemical dependency, psychosis, enuresis, encopresis, and/or early onset psychiatric problems are not appropriate for our program. Aggression and other
violent behavior will not be tolerated at Stone Mountain School. Violations
could lead to dismissal. Enrollment eligibility will be reviewed on a
case-by-case basis.
Substance Abuse
Students whose primary diagnosis is one of substance abuse or dependence
will not be considered for enrollment. Stone Mountain School is not a
substance abuse program. Students with past problems may be considered
for enrollment. If there is any doubt about an applicant's status,
Stone Mountain School will require that a separate substance abuse assessment
be performed.
